Assistant Accountant - 12 month fixed term (Part-Time, Job-Share and Full-Time)

Location:  Flexible (although must be within a commutable distance to Swindon)

The opportunity:

We are currently recruiting for an assistant accountant to join the UK Life Reporting finance function. As part of the role you will be responsible for timely and accurate preparation of internal and external financial information in order to balance financial performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is able to work both independently and as part of a team in order to identify operational improvements whilst delivering on our commitment to customers. As a member of the team you will play a vital part in helping the department to achieve its operational objectives and ensure the team delivers a high quality service

Key activities:

Examples of potential activities that you may be asked to support are:

  • Review the accuracy of balance sheet, profit & loss and other financial information required by the Zurich Group, in line with Zurich Group instructions, guidelines and policies;
  • Preparation of quarterly management and interim accounts for non-insurance companies;
  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts on both an FRS 101 and FRS 102 basis;
  • Support year end statutory audit activities including Directors’ emoluments and related parties information;
  • Ongoing analysis / oversight of SAP ledgers including assistance with intercompany balance queries, cash management and journal entries/queries;
  • Proactively search for internal control and operational improvements;
  • Review control evidence provided by the Regional Finance Centre (RFC) in Krakow to support sign off by local managers;
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with Finance, Accounting, Reporting and Operations management team, local auditors, Company Secretarial and the wider Finance department;
  • Assistance with ad hoc project work.
  • Your skills and experience:

  • Part/Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA would be preferred, although we will consider AAT qualified candidates with strong Financial Reporting experience)
  • Knowledge of financial systems & business platforms (SAP an advantage);
  • Microsoft office experience essential;
  • Financial reporting experience (an advantage);
  • Financial services experience (an advantage);
  • Excellent time and task management skills;
  • Competently act as a change agent with the appetite to initiate and implement change and continuous process improvements;
  • Makes decisions in line with responsibility and accountability;
  • Excellent problem solving skills;
  • Knowledge of financial services legislation, regulation and accounting policies (an advantage)
