Chief Operating Officer

The Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) is looking to recruit a new Chief Operating Officer. This high profile role offers the opportunity to help transform how Defra works in the future post EU exit.

The Chief Operating Officer is a key senior leadership role within the department. You will be directly responsible for four functions: Digital, Data and Technology Services; Human Resources; Commercial; and Property. Each of these has a critical role to play in supporting the 55 projects in the EU exit portfolio. You’ll also be responsible for leading the overall programme of corporate services transformation which extends across finance and communications functions managed by the Director General (DG) Strategy Delivery.

To be successful in this role you will need to have a real understanding of, and empathy for, the functions that you’ll be leading; a deep commitment to improving user experience; and the drive and vision to lead transformation across a diverse and dispersed group of organisations.

This is a fantastic opportunity. If you like the sound of it and think you can do it we would like to hear from you.

The selection process will be overseen by the Civil Service Commission. More detailed information can be found at on the Civil Service Commission website:
