The opportunity: 

Are you an experienced underwriter looking for your next step in Underwriting? Do you want to join an award-winning team? If so, we would love to hear from you! Our Navigators and General commercial team are looking for an Underwriter to contribute to their ongoing growth.

You will be joining a team that has doubled in size in the last year as a result of our successful growth. As the Commercial Underwriter, you will analyse and underwrite new and renewal marine combined business, regularly interacting and facing the market.

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

What will you be doing?

  • Seek, develop and maintain relationships with brokers in support of new business and retention goals.
  • Underwriting and pricing of marine trade combined policies with negotiation of terms and price to fit Zurich’s underwriting appetite.
  • Provide technical expertise for short-term, defined scope projects.
  • Monitor underwriting processes in order to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • As well as the ‘business as usual’, you will also have the opportunity to support on N&G Underwriting projects. Development is important to us so not only will we invest in you, but you will also have the chance to coach and mentor our junior underwriters.

    What are we looking for?

    As an experienced underwriter, we would expect you to have the following skills and experience but the main thing we are looking for is the drive to succeed and help us on our continued journey of success and growth!

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues and external customers and brokers.
  • Experience in underwriting Property and Casualty insurance. Marine knowledge is also valuable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of insurance performance and financial metrics.
