CSWAS (Civil Service Workplace Adjustment Service) Consultant

This role can be based in Leeds, London or Sheffield.
CSWAS aims to improve the provision of Workplace Adjustments across the Civil Service both in terms of timeliness for the individual, but also in cost efficiency and simplicity of process for the Business. We have a tiered approach for the services we offer, and work closely with our onboarded departments as well as the wider Civil Service. We are a centre of expertise, leading on strategy, providing expert advice and sharing best practice across government on workplace adjustments. We also provide an escalation point, for all departments where individuals can obtain impartial advice for those experiencing difficulties in implementing workplace adjustments.

CSWAS sits within Civil Service Employee Policy (CSEP) which is one of four HR expert services now hosted by the Cabinet Office. It was established in 2011 and has grown to become a credible, expert and high quality service.

The Role

The role can be based with our teams in either Central London, Sheffield, or Leeds. As a CSWAS Consultant you will be expected to:

● Engage and consult with wide-ranging stakeholders from across the Civil Service, and of varying levels of seniority, to discuss workplace adjustment priorities and expectations, ensuring that mutually beneficial outcomes are achieved.

● Develop and disseminate expertise on disability, health conditions and workplace adjustments and provide appropriate, professional, advice, guidance, available options and signposting on workplace adjustments, as well as developing an expertise in specific key conditions.

● Work with staff and managers to help resolve a complex range of adjustment needs and solutions.

● Actively promote the CSWAS service by enthusiastically engaging with a wide variety of colleagues at conferences, and delivering talks or events as required.

● Support a network of practitioners across government, sharing best practice and promoting change, and supporting on workplace adjustment strategy development.

● Review Route – provide expert support to complex cases from organisations across the Civil Service. Gathering a full understanding of the issues raised, facilitating discussions between departments and individuals to identify and consider possible solutions.

● Draft management papers, briefings and policy products, etc. in styles appropriate for the audience to a high standard.

● Be adaptable to support CSEP’s flexible resourcing model, including occasional travel if required.

Essential and Desirable Criteria

● It is essential that you have worked with a broad range of stakeholders and have experience in understanding and navigating complex situations/processes within organisations, whilst also being able to simplify and adapt your communications to explain these to others.

● Experience of influencing and confidently articulating the rationale for an approach in order to gain agreement, is also essential.

● You will need to demonstrate an ability to keep abreast of strategic priorities and wider factors which have impacted longer term decisions and/or approaches.

● A working knowledge of implementing workplace adjustments within an organisation is desirable.
