Deputy Director, Corporate Operations

Organisation: Northern Ireland Office

Contract length: Three-year fixed term

Salary: £70,000 per annum (nationally) or £72,500 per annum if based in London

Location: Belfast or London

The role

The Northern Ireland Office supports the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in promoting the best interests of Northern Ireland within a stronger United Kingdom.

The role of Deputy Director, Corporate Operations is an exciting, broad and challenging role which offers unrivalled opportunities to cover the full suite of corporate services, supporting change in the department and leading the relationships with several of our Arm’s Length Bodies and external partners. This will include ensuring that we are able to successfully deliver on the financial and other outworking of the current Spending Review.

You will, in effect, be Chief Operating Officer for the department, ensuring the delivery of the full range of effective corporate services (across a team of over 30 people from different corporate disciplines), as well as supporting the Departmental Board and Executive Management Committee as Board Secretary. It will be testing but it will also be exciting, and never dull.

You will have specific responsibility for leading the Corporate Operations Group (COG) which provides the overarching support services for the day-to-day policy and programmes work of the Department including finance, human resources (HR) and estates and office services (including IT), corporate governance, knowledge and information management, and departmental security.

COG also has a sponsoring role in respect of the Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland, one of the Department’s Arms-Length Bodies, and for the Crown Solicitor’s Office in relation to its resources and administration. You will be expected to lead on these relationships.
