Digital Accessibility & Usability Tester

They are looking to recruit a Digital Accessibility and Usability Tester to work within a small team, starting asap for 6 months, working full time and paying £14.30ph. This role will work from home initially and equipment will be supplied.

The role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to the newly formed Accessibility and Usability Evaluation Team. The team will increase the internal accessibility and usability testing capabilities and capacities of the OU. This will ensure that we are meeting and responding to the changing digital requirements of our students and users as well as developing and delivering systems and websites which are as accessible and usable as possible.

The post holder will be responsible for conducting accessibility and usability testing according to established processes and standards in order to produce evaluations and reports for stakeholders. This will include conducting user testing and working with team members to assess and develop the systems and websites used by OU students and staff.

Skills and Experience required

  • Work experience at a comparable level.
  • An ability to use suitable automated testing tools where appropriate but most testing time is manual, so using screen readers, magnifiers, speech recognition and browsers and other tools to conduct the manual tests and support anything which can't be covered with the automated testing or reports or needs investigating further.
  • Knowledge of appropriate guidelines e.g. WCAG
  • Knowledge of the standards used to develop websites and mobile apps - e.g. HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA and JavaScript, as well as basic concepts of digital accessibility and usability.
  • Experience in testing application accessibility/usability and assisting developers in remediating defects.
