Position: Domestic Violence BME Outreach Worker (Polish Speaking)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £24,360 - £26,999 per annum

About the role:

Do you want to work for an organisation that provides a voice for abused women, and plays a vital role in ensuring that life-saving services are in place to support them? If so, then the role of BME Community Outreach Worker (Domestic Violence Outreach Worker) may be perfect for you.
This role will predominantly work with victims from BME communities. You will be a Polish speaking worker, reflecting the fact that the Polish community are the largest ethnic group in Warwickshire according to census data. The BME outreach worker will seek to create links with marginalised BME communities; working with EQUIP, Warwickshire’s Equality and Inclusion Partnership.
The post holder will provide a high quality personal welfare support service to survivors of domestic violence and other forms of violence and abuse who are from BME communities, including those at the point of crisis. The post holder will provide advice, advocacy, support and training to statutory agencies, in accordance with Refuge’s philosophical principles.
The role involves empowering BME domestic abuse survivors to make decisions, increase their options, their confidence and their safety. As part of this role, you will work within a multi-agency framework to develop referral pathways, joint working and information sharing protocols.
Methodical and well-organised, you will have significant proven experience of providing direct emotional, practical and welfare support, ideally within a relevant field such as a refuge, women’s advice centre or residential setting.
You will be experienced in assisting people to apply for welfare benefits and in identifying and responding to the risks to and needs of survivors of domestic violence. With an up-to-date knowledge of relevant civil and criminal legislation, you will have a demonstrable ability to use Microsoft Office and the ability to build and develop supportive relationships with survivors and their children fleeing domestic violence.
The job involves working within a multi-agency framework to develop referral, joint working and information sharing protocols and it will cover a large geographical area, including rural locations, therefore a full driving licence and use of own car is essential.
Desirable Skills or Experience:
Good knowledge of the local area would be an advantage.
Due to the community group this role will predominately support, the ability to speak Polish is a mandatory requirement for this role.
