Location: The GPA Corporate Headquarters will move from London to Birmingham in 2021. This post could either be based in Birmingham initially (with travel to London and other UK locations as required), or it could be based in London initially and then in Birmingham from 2021 (with travel to London and other UK locations as required).
Job Description: This is an incredibly exciting time for government property - real estate is at the heart of reinventing Government, and the GPA is central to delivering on the vision of a ‘Brilliant Civil Service’. The Finance Director position plays a key role in the development of this new organisation across Whitehall, providing the opportunity to shape the vision, culture and strategy of the organisation. This is a new concept for Government and represents a significant leadership and stakeholder management challenge.
What are we offering?
The Finance Director position will be one of the senior leaders within GPA. You will operate at Board level, contributing to the corporate leadership, strategic direction, and management of the Agency. The role will provide a strategic financial outlook based on sound commercial understanding, and is responsible for the results and financial sustainability of GPA. Responsibilities are covered in more detail in the candidate information pack but will include supporting the Board, the Audit & Risk Committee and the Investment Committee by providing expert advice on opportunities and risks, and the promotion of sound corporate governance. You will also develop strong relationships with HM Treasury and Cabinet Office and other departmental finance directors to ensure collaboration, understanding and agreement on Agency finance matters and with Government Digital Service (GDS) on Agency technology matters.
What we are looking for?
To deliver our aspirations we need a financially qualified individual with either ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA or equivalent and proven experience of understanding government and/or public sector budgeting and accounting processes. Leadership is key for this role and therefore the successful candidate must have senior executive experience, setting strategy, providing financial and performance advice. You will need to have well developed stakeholder management experience with a diverse range of stakeholders.
