About the role:

It's knowing you're protecting the community that surrounds you.

It's feeling trusted to deliver to the very highest standards. And it’s the pride in protecting environments of unique historical importance. This is what makes working for The Royal Household exceptional.

Joining the professional and dedicated Fire Surveillance team at Windsor Castle, you'll provide a 24/7 fire surveillance service and support all aspects of fire safety across the Royal Household’s Windsor Estate.

You'll monitor and respond to automatic fire detection systems, and carry out regular fire safety inspections and patrols, as well as act as the first-response in the event of a fire or out-of-hours property alert.

In the event of a fire, you’ll use your knowledge of the estate to ‘path find’ for emergency services and guide their teams safely to the incident and support with any salvage operation as required.

Maintaining schedules for tested equipment will be an important task, and you'll carry out dynamic risk assessments in the event of an incident.

In this uniquely varied role, you’ll also monitor the Royal Household switchboard during night shifts, support the Property section with events, and help train the wider organisation on the importance of fire safety.

The breadth of this role will provide opportunities to develop new skills and experience, enabling you to deliver a vital service to this unique organisation.

About You:

Experience in a similar role is desirable, but not essential, as we will give you any additional training you need.

It's you’re your willingness to learn new skills, and your pro-active and team-focused approach that will make the real difference.

You’ll have a calm, logical approach to problem solving, and you’ll be able to apply the knowledge you acquire to identify and address fire safety risks across multiple sites.
Interpersonal skills are important too, because you’ll be working closely with a wide range of people.

Ideally trained in first aid, you'll be able to provide support to first aid incidents on-site when needed.

Basic IT skills are a must, and you'll ideally have experience of computerised fire and/or security monitoring and access control systems.

Above all, you'll have initiative and a pro-active attitude, essential qualities that will enable you to deliver to the highest standards every day.

As a part time Fire Surveillance Officer, you’ll be guaranteed 960 hours per annum, which equates to 80 shifts, but you’ll also be willing and flexible to support the team during busy periods and on an occasional ad hoc basis.
