G5 Crime Indexer

The Crime Indexer role is based within the Serious Crime Analysis Section (SCAS). SCAS work to identify the potential emergence of serial killers and serial rapists at the earliest stage of their offending.

Job description

• A SCAS Crime Indexer role is to review case papers received from police forces relating to serious sexual offences and murders.

• Crime Indexers then code this offence information onto a bespoke SCAS database, Violent Crime Linkage Analysis System (ViCLAS). ViCLAS allows specific details of both the offence and known suspects or offenders to be captured.

• Crime Indexers also act as a point of contact for forces submitting case details to the unit. Each Crime Indexer is allocated designated contacts within specific police forces throughout the UK to liaise with to obtain case details.

• The role is integral to the Serious Crime Analysis Section achieving its remit to carry out comparative case analysis on a national basis on serious sexually motivated crime.

• This specialist post follows an in-house training programme, followed by coaching/mentoring by an experienced member of staff.
 

Responsibilities

Please Note:

• This role involves exposure to case material relating to serious sexual offences (including murder); this will include details of sexual violence, trauma, injury and sexually explicit language.

• The role requires SC Enhanced security clearance prior to commencing the role.

• Successful candidates will be required to complete a psychological assessment and substance misuse as part of pre-employment checks.

• Successful candidates will be required to attend NCA induction training, and complete NCA training courses and SCAS training courses.

• Recognised Social Science qualification
