About the job

Job description

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is looking for an enthusiastic Analysis professional who will play a crucial role in the way Defra deliver their analytical activities and the function across the group.

Defra plays a vital role at the heart of UK life. The wide-ranging work we do to safeguard the natural environment, support the UK’s world-leading food and farming industry, sustain a thriving rural economy and engineer the nation’s defenses against natural threats and hazards impacts the lives of over 65 million people. Join us and you will be part of a department that protects the food people eat, the water they drink and the air they breathe. You will be part of an organisation wholeheartedly promoting inclusiveness and valuing diversity. In short, you will be a member of a group dedicated to creating a great place for living and a great place for working.

The Group Director of Analysis will be responsible for building a strong Analysis function whilst Defra continues to deliver our core functions - ensuring that we provide high quality decisions that are based on sound analysis. The role will oversee our work to ensure decisions are based on informed and world-class analysis to ensure we continue to make a valuable contribution for our consumers, businesses and the UK economy. In this inspiring role, you will therefore:

● Work closely with industry, consumers and international counterparts to ensure that the decisions that Defra and the UK Government make are based on world-class analysis
● Build and further strengthen the overall analytical capability of Defra whilst championing the efficient and creative use of data, analysis and evidence across the Defra Group
● Lead and inspire analysts from a wide range of professions to stimulate new and imaginative thinking

To make the most of this senior leadership role, you will need extensive analytical and innovation experience in which you have worked across professions to make connections. Having delivered expert services and strategy within an Analysis function, you will have good problem solving and outstanding communication capabilities. As a leader, you will also have knowledge of creating an inclusive environment whilst working in a complex organisation.

We aim to support the professional and personal wellbeing of everyone in Defra. Our benefits include generous annual leave, a contributory pension, staff bonuses and recognition, salary sacrifice benefit options, and an employee discount scheme. We also offer flexible working and a variety of learning and development opportunities.

Applications must be received by 23.59 on Sunday 30th September 2018.
