Hospital Clinical Director (part time/job share)

17:00

We're looking to recruit a part time Hospital Clinical Director to complete a job share at our Harmsworth Animal Hospital (London N7), alternating between working two and three set days per week.

You will work with the existing job share partner to oversee the clinical aspects of the hospital. You will ensure the smooth and efficient running of the veterinary services in accordance with standards and policies laid down by the RSPCA and RCVS.

Our dedicated veterinary teams at the hospitals provide high quality 24 hour treatment and care for sick and injured animals presented by our Inspectorate and Animal Centres as well as providing a veterinary service to pets belonging to people who are on supplementary benefits who cannot afford private veterinary fees.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced vet with management skills, looking for a senior role, who values a work/life balance and enjoys working in a varied and busy environment caring for the animals most in need and supporting the staff who provide for them.

Our vision is a society where no animal suffers unnecessarily. Some animals that come to us have been mistreated, kept in awful conditions or left without free access to food or water. They may arrive terrified and it's up to us to try and work out why and bring them round to trusting people again. We do this on a daily basis with a dedicated team that we're extremely proud of. The work can be tough, both physically and emotionally but very rewarding.

What you'll be doing:

  • Daily ward rounds to ensure appropriate treatment of strays and inpatients
  • Overseeing more challenging cases and reinforcing the veterinary team
  • Providing line management for all direct reports, including rosters, communication, probationary reviews, annual leave approval, appraisals and personal development
  • Developing and assisting with strategic initiatives; including student teaching programmes, animal centre work and programmes to better contribute to the work of our Inspectorate
  • Maintaining strong relationships with RSPCA Inspectorate teams, our branches and animal centres
  • Ensuring the hospitals comply with RSPCA public relations and media policies, including interviews and providing materials for press publications
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with key stakeholders both in and outside of the veterinary profession
  • Promoting animal welfare through client education and preventative medicine in accordance with RSPCA policy
  • When required undertaking general veterinary duties, including consultation and medical treatment of animals, surgical operations (including neutering and general surgery)
  • Overall management of any complaints received within the Society guidelines for acceptable levels of response with a copy to the Regional Assistant Director
  • You'll have:

  • RCVS Membership
  • Management qualification or experience
  • Experience of managing a team of clinical professionals
  • Knowledge and experience of broader animal welfare considerations in the provision of veterinary advice
  • Awareness of RSPCA professional standards and policies
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • People management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to manage own time effectively
  • Ability to build relationships with professional colleagues outside of the RSPCA
  • What's in it for you:

You'll have an opportunity to work for the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales.

We value and recognise our employees' contribution and are proud to offer an extensive benefits package that includes:
