Your new role

In this exciting new role you will be responsible for the administration of the payroll for Hitachi Rail Limited employees, providing an effective and efficient payroll service to your designated areas within the business. You will be based at the office or train maintenance centre that is located closest to you in the UK. Please see our website for all our locations. This role is a permanent part time position, over 3 to 4 days a week, working 28 hours a week.

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:

  • To manage the administration of the weekly, 4 weekly and monthly payroll for all Service & Maintenance locations
  • To provide specialist advice and guidance in relation to HMRC legislation, ensuring the business is compliant to include all year end reporting (P60,P11D,PSA)
  • To manage the pension administration to include ensuring the business is compliant as per the Pensions Regulator
  • To provide a professional and responsive service to customers both internally and externally and to be the first line support for employee payroll queries
  • To review, document and communicate the payroll operating processes
  • To support all payroll related matters for Tupe acquisitions
  • General

  • To be aware of, actively promote, and implement Hitachi’s ethos, culture and values.
  • To be involved in Hitachi Rail Limited’s staff development and training and participate in GPM procedures in HiNext system.

  • About you

    Essential Requirements

  • Payroll experience to include Year End filing requirements
  • Ability to work within a pressured environment whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer facing skills, ability to work and communicate with senior stakeholders and staff at all levels
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing; able to influence well at all levels
  • Strong team working skills, able to work collaboratively across the HR function in a multi sited environment
  • Numerate with the ability to understand and analyse complex information and data
  • Advanced level skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent Planning, prioritising and organising skills
  • Desirable Requirements

  • Previous experience of working in an HR Shared Services centre
  • Previous experience of working in an outsourced Payroll environment
  • Awareness and understanding of HR practices
  • Experience of working in a Unionised environment and Tupe acquisitions
  • Previous experience in a rail or manufacturing company
  • Relevant CIPP payroll qualifications
  • ADP Payroll/ Workday System experience
  • Qualifications

  • English & Mathematics GCSE level or equivalent
  • Graduate level or equivalent
