Planning Officer (Applications)

This role provides an opportunity to develop your skills and professional development within the Planning Service. If you already have some experience in this area and are ready to take the next step in gaining experience of dealing with a mix of different application types, then this is the role for you. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your experience in a planning service with a shared working arrangement.

The post holder will be responsible for the effective processing of planning applications in accordance with best practice, local and government targets and the provision of professional advice on a wide range of planning matters ensuring a development team approach to the customer.

Planning Officer Responsibilities:

- Process a range of planning and associated applications including householder applications, change of use, small scale minor applications such as new houses and more complex listed building consent applications
- Providing professional advice face to face, on the telephone and in writing on behalf of the Council in respect of planning and related issues, including providing pre-application advice
- Presenting applications to planning committee
- Dealing with enforcement matters and carrying out associated duties as and when required
- Demonstrating the ability, the prepare a written representation appeal case and manage the process independently
- Undertaking specific projects within the Planning Service (such as participating in Continuous Development)
- Assisting other teams within the service when required, including Enforcement and Policy

The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

Planning Officer Requirements:

- Planning degree (or currently undertaking this), or equivalent level of qualification
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
- Student membership of the RTPI or Licentiate member or in the process of applying for this
- Good IT skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and email
- Good report and professional letter writing skills, demonstrating the ability to manage the majority of your case load independently
- Ability to interpret scale drawings and Ordnance Survey maps
- Hold a full and current driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use
