Resilience and Continuity Business Partner

The Resilience and Business Continuity Business Partners are a key enabler for the business focused on the resilience and continuity of services.


Role Purpose

Ensure arrangements are in place so that Aviva Investors (‘the business’) can continue to operate for the benefit of its customers and the financial market, in the event of disruption, regardless of the cause, nature or severity.


Key responsibilities include:

·       Engaging with the business to understand what is critical and the potential threats and risks to their resilience and continuity of services

·       Working with the business and relevant functions to ensure that Business Impact Assessments (Clearview inputs) and resilience plans are robust, fit for purpose and actionable

·       Working with the business and relevant functions on measures and contingency arrangements that could reduce the likelihood of disruption and improve resilience

·       Identifying and determining viable continuity strategy options across the Business during ‘business as usual’ and for specific projects that can be implemented during a disruption

·       Providing advice and support during invocation of business continuity and resilience plans should an incident occur

·       Leading the planning and development of scenario specific contingency plans

·       Working with Crisis Management to develop awareness sessions and exercises as part of a programme

·       Managing Work Area Recovery testing for the business including pre-test activities, on site support and post test follow up to resolution

·       Engaging with and supporting the business and relevant functions during a disruption 

·       Contributing to the lessons identified process to enable continual improvement

·       Sharing best practice across the business

•       Building strong networks into all key business units and functions

•       Close collaboration with IT, Property and Facilities,

•       Working with Internal Audit to close any gaps in risks


External Interaction

•       Engagement with third party suppliers to understand their resilience and continuity capabilities

•       Provide Subject Matter Expertise to respond to customer and partner requests

•       Identify best practice and learning opportunities from partners and suppliers


Risk Management

•       Establish and quantify the organisations operational resilience tolerance levels

•       Assess, evaluate and present resiliency risks to business leads to ensure they are aware of the impact they could have if not appropriately mitigated

•       Identify and assess potential threats

•       Embedded within the business

•       Key relationships established to better understand continuity risks and challenges

•       Confirm employees are continuously trained

•       Ensure resilience plans are appropriate and up-to-date always

•       Validating that recovery tests are being conducted regularly

•       Reviewing test results for successes and opportunities

•       Business Impact Analyses are conducted at regularly planned intervals

•       Resiliency exercises (table top, walkthrough, functional, etc.) are held at regularly planned intervals

•       Emergency notification contact details are up-to-date always

•       Alignment with Disaster Recovery for crisis response

The Person



·       Degree/professional qualification

·       Membership of the Business Continuity Institute


Previous experience and skills required

·       Detailed knowledge of Business Continuity Management and an understanding of related international standards e.g. ISO 22301

·       Proven track record in delivering tangible business continuity and resilience activities to financial services/asset managers

·       Effective communication, influencing and collaboration skills with internal/external stakeholders

·       Ability to work in a complex, fast paced environment

·       Ability to concisely and accurately convey information (verbal, presentation and written)

·       Strong project management skills and attention to detail

·       Customer first mind-set
