Returner Placement: Usher

Returner placements will be open to all individuals who have taken time out of work for at least 2 years, or are currently engaged in work that does not make the best use of their skills, competencies and qualifications.

This role, based in Preston, has the following key responsibilities:
- Attend all team meetings and contribute and show a positive approach to continuous change and improvement.
- All general daily usher duties in courtrooms, including swearing in and liaison with parties/witnesses and all other court users, keeping the judge/clerk informed at all times of issues around the list/defendants/witnesses, the setting up of court, tidying of court afterwards (and Mags room if Mags have been sitting)
- Provide Switchboard/Reception cover as appropriate
- Sitting with juries out as appropriate when juries go out to deliberate
- Where appropriate, deal with and sit with witnesses in the witness videolink rooms for trials involving vulnerable witnesses
- Assist with the booths for Prison Videolink hearings
- Morning duties before courts start; putting out lists, assisting with other general office duties (such as filing) as time allows
- Assisting with post sending out at the end of the day
- Ensure all judges papers are in the correct chambers for the next days' sittings
- Manage their own attendance in accordance with the Managing Attendance Policy
- Have a good working knowledge of in court equipment, such as videolink equipment in the courtrooms and in videolink witness rooms
- Have a knowledge of how DCS and ClickShare works to be able to assist court users and complete 5 days training (minimum) on CSL or other learning
