A position as an Employment Law Specialist Adviser has arisen to cover maternity leave. Beyond the fixed term period, it may open up new opportunities for career progression either within the NFU or otherwise.
Employment Law Specialist Adviser Responsibilities:
As an Employment Law Specialist Adviser, you will work within a highly supportive and knowledgeable team in which you will provide high quality legal, technical or policy related advice in reply to member queries. You will need to be able to think on your feet and use your initiative to confidently address problems, offering effective and appropriate solutions and advice.
Queries are predominantly dealt with via the telephone, although other mediums are used. For example, you will be involved with developing articles for our publications, reviewing and drafting legal documents including written statements of employment and staff handbooks and confirming advice in writing when required. You may also be required to visit members to take instructions for the purposes of drafting employment documents. You will therefore need to have a flexible and adaptable communication style, an excellent telephone manner and experience providing quality customer service.
Employment Law Specialist Adviser Requirements:
You will need to possess a degree in law, or related subject and have at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience advising on Employment Law. The role may suit a solicitor, or an associate or higher-level member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (or someone working towards that qualification), although this is not essential.
You’ll be an excellent communicator, possessing a high standard of written and verbal communication skills enabling you to communicate technical and complex information to our members and stakeholders in a non-legalistic way.
To be successful in this busy and varied role you will need to be an imaginative problem solver, possess impressive organisational skills and have a keen eye for detail. You will also be a learner who is capable of getting to grips with new areas of law proficiently. A genuine interest (or first-hand experience) in agriculture would also be beneficial.

Job type: Full time, Temporary Fixed Term Contract up to 12 months maternity leave; Flexible working considered; between 8am – 6pm and your normal hours of work will be 35 hours per week working within these hours, although flexibility within these core hours may be required.
Salary: £34,439.12 per annum
