Role overview

The Technical Demonstrator will have a highly varied role assisting teaching staff and facilitating the needs of students within specific technical disciplines in the Design & Technology- Textiles.

Key Duties:

Supervision of specific workshop activities, relating primarily to Textiles, undertaken by both staff and pupils.
Proactively, flexibly and supportively assisting with pupils’ needs as appropriate throughout the school day, providing aesthetic and technical guidance and support within specific technical area of Textiles, as directed and required;
Oversee groups of students working within the classroom and /or workshops, with and without academic staff attendance during lesson times or during Co- curricular activities
Assist with the storage of student work.
Preparation of works for exhibition of work both in department and around the school.
Supervising, demonstrating and guiding pupils individually and in groups in the preparation of Textiles materials as directed in a technical support context;
Liaising with colleagues in the faculty and throughout the school;
Attending departmental meetings and whole-school briefings, as required;
Provide support to teaching staff within Textiles to facilitate student learning as required;
The management of materials and equipment and monitoring control of stock within particular technical areas relating to Textiles.
General administrative work within the department as directed.

Person Specification:

A real passion for Textiles (Art and Design) and in supporting the development of pupils in this area of the curriculum
ICT skills sufficient to fulfil the needs of the post and a good knowledge of Textiles Design techniques and materials
Experience in a similar role and/or within the field of education
An enthusiasm for working and facilitating the creative development needs of young people.
To possess a positive, can do attitude.
To present a calm and measured disposition when under pressure.
A highly flexible approach to hours and duties
The desire to undertake further training as may be required in order to properly perform the duties in a changing and challenging environment

Able to:
communicate clearly, concisely and logically both verbally and in writing to staff and students
be flexible with excellent interpersonal skills
work independently and as part of a team
plan and prioritise work load individually or as part of a team to meet objectives
use both computer and paper data systems to keep records and all relevant documentation

Art/ Design related qualifications
Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety procedures and requirements
Experience with CAD software such as Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
Willingness to hold a First Aid certificate
