Manpower are currently recruiting for an Activities Coordinator based in a Care Home in Oxford.

Flexible working hours available, 16 - 32 hours per week, including alternate weekends (working hours between 10am - 6:30pm).

£9.00 - £9.50 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Enhanced pay for weekends.

Job Overview

We are looking for a vibrant individual who has experience of working alongside older people in a residential setting.

As an Activities Coordinator you will part of the well-established Recreation Therapy and Occupational Therapy team which provides a high standard of meaningful, engaging activities reflecting the unique interests of patients and residents.

Our Client is an independent Registered Care Home with Nursing, offering both long-term and short-term care. This is a fantastic time to join us as we look at completing building works in 2018 to offer even more facilities and opportunities to enhance the quality of life for this community.

Main Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify resident activity needs and wishes through assessment, observation and discussion with the Occupational Therapist and as agreed in their individual care plan.
  • Liaise with residents, relatives, friends of residents and staff to ensure full knowledge of the resident's likes, dislikes, interests, abilities and difficulties.
  • Explore the most appropriate methods and resources for meeting activity needs. This includes arranging group events or individual sessions, both planned and spontaneous and involving other local community-based resources.
  • Plan a varied programme of activity based around the needs of the resident group using the identified sources and in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist and Recreation Therapists.
  • Maintain a monthly calendar of activities and events that provide a variety of resident centred experiences.
  • Organise and support outings in the community using wheelchair accessible transport.
  • Advertise the planned programme in an appropriate manner which encourages the involvement of all residents, relatives and staff.
  • Deliver activities in a timely manner and communicate any changes to planned activities with all staff involved.
  • Record information on residents progress, use outcome measures under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist and complete necessary reports as appropriate.
  • Expect to undertake other such duties as may from time to time be required.
  • Attend training sessions/courses necessary in the performance of these duties.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Previous experience of working or volunteering with older people in a residential setting desirable.
  • Good knowledge of planning and delivering individual and group activities.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literacy with the desire to expand and develop this knowledge as working practices and systems develop.
  • Qualification such as The Level 3 Certificate in Activity Provision in Social Care (QCF) desirable.
  • Clean driving licence. Mini-bus driving experience desirable.
