The Transforming Learning Group (TLG) supports over 5,000 schools across England through eight specialist brands, providing ICT and computing support, MIS services, GDPR consultancy, and training. With more than 450 colleagues, we’re committed to helping schools run efficiently so they can focus on teaching and learning.

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. This is a varied role supporting day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities, including purchase and sales ledger, reconciliations, and month-end processes. You’ll also assist with management accounts, VAT returns, and year-end audits, helping to maintain accurate records and improve financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process purchase ledger transactions and manage supplier payments
  • Handle expenses and company credit card transactions
  • Raise invoices, process receipts, and support credit control
  • Perform reconciliations and assist with month-end close
  • Prepare VAT returns and support management accounts
  • Contribute to process improvements and system changes

About You

  • Previous experience in an all-round finance role
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS)
  • Positive, can-do attitude and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

Desirable:

  • AAT qualified or working towards ACA/CIMA (or QBE)
  • Familiarity with Xero or similar accounting software
