Position: Lead SQL Developer/Database Administrator
Location: Bury, Greater Manchester (home working due to COVID19)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
Salary: £50,000-£55,000 per annum (depending on experience)

A mixture between hands-on SQL Development, Production DBA and team management. To develop and maintain database environments supporting our systems. To ensure continual development using relevant technologies and of database/BI technologies in collaboration with Stakeholders & Service Providers. Creating development plans ensuring the team have sufficient knowledge to support our systems and deliver future strategies.

The Challenge Ahead

The Operations Department is a fast growing, multi-disciplined team with the responsibility for developing bespoke platforms and client facing web operations.


• Manage, develop and recruit a team of SQL & BI Developers
• Key processes documented and maintained
• KPI’s/SLAs introduced, documented and evaluated
• Design, optimise and implement SQL Server solutions for our systems with the development team
• Define database strategies and procedures with the Development Manager
• Document, adopt and maintain database standards
• Assess database infrastructure with the wider business
• Define database and BI strategies with the Development Manager
• Develop excellent network, database and server infrastructure knowledge
• Ensure data is accurate and available in a user-friendly manner to the business and external clients
• Identify potential cost, time saving and system improvements and challenge existing methodologies
• Work with the wider business to understand user requirements, potential issues, risks etc. and produce technical specifications where suitable
• Investigate and troubleshoot database issues including performance management
• Design and develop performance and manageable solutions using SQL Server
• Support BI developers develop effective SQL code for reporting
• Integrate 3rd Party applications within CBS and cloud using SSIS
• Work and contribute effectively to Agile framework/methodology
• Ensure databases function optimally and are scalable
• In line with SQL standards, assist SQL developers with database development and performance tuning
• Ensure data security, integrity and availability is in line with external standards e.g. GDPR
• Continuously improve data quality by working with stakeholders
• Investigate new technologies and assess impacts of implementation
• Continually update technical knowledge/skills with manuals, video tutorials, hands-on training etc.


• Degree in relevant subject matter(Essential)

Skills, Knowledge & Attributes

• Demonstrable Development DBA experience supporting bespoke applications
• Demonstrable experience leading/developing a DB/MI function
• Strong knowledge of TSQL
• Version control systems knowledge
• Developing ETL using SSIS
• Experience designing, implementing, enhancing database schemas and optimising their use
• Demonstrable commercial experience in MS SQL environment
• Strong current technical trends and techniques knowledge
• People, performance and development experience
• Positively influence and motivate the team
• Methodical with attention to detail
• Organisational and time management skills
• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external contacts
• Self-starter who’s able to work minimum supervision to deliver results

• Experience working and implementing BI technologies including data warehousing
• Production DBA experience managing performance & capacity
• Production DBA experience managing security & availability with Support Providers
• Strong knowledge supporting reporting function
• Commercial experience in Azure environment
