Job Description

People Generalist (Standalone Role)
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Salary: Competitive + Benefits
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Opportunity
We're searching for a People Generalist who can be the approachable face of HR in a growing and dynamic Birmingham office. Reporting to senior HR leadership, this is a standalone role where you'll have the autonomy to manage key HR functions while embedding company values, driving engagement, and supporting the ongoing growth of a rapidly scaling team.

This role offers the unique opportunity to shape culture and HR practices in a high-growth, people-focused environment, while being supported by a wider HR team across Europe and globally.

Key Outcomes for the Role:

  1. Foster an Inclusive Culture:
As the HR lead for the Birmingham office, you will create an environment where employees feel supported and engaged. You'll be responsible for onboarding new team members, integrating them into the company’s culture, and ensuring smooth transitions during major organisational changes.

  2. Employee Relations and Autonomy:
You'll independently handle employee relations, managing everything from performance and disciplinary matters to day-to-day HR queries. Your ability to manage processes with confidence and empathy will ensure smooth and compliant HR operations.

  3. Drive Continuous Improvement and Wellbeing Initiatives:
You will actively engage in initiatives that promote employee wellbeing and foster a positive working environment, while continuously seeking ways to improve both personal and team performance. You’ll also be responsible for projects designed to strengthen inclusion and engagement across the team.

  4. Strategic Change Management:
As the business grows, so will the Birmingham office. You’ll play a critical role in supporting change management initiatives, including restructuring, growth in headcount, and the potential expansion of new departments, particularly in the context of growing an in-house contact centre.

  5. HR Operational Excellence:
You'll manage recruitment, employee relations, payroll, and ensure compliance with UK employment law. Your role is to ensure all HR systems and processes are handled efficiently and align with company values, ensuring the wellbeing of staff.

  6. Collaboration and Autonomy:
While you’ll have support from senior HR leaders and a global team, this role requires someone who can work independently, demonstrate initiative, and act as a trusted advisor to the business in Birmingham.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • HR Generalist Experience: Significant experience in an HR role, managing employee relations, recruitment, and people initiatives in an office-based environment.
  • Autonomy & Initiative: You will be comfortable taking full ownership of HR operations while collaborating with the senior team on broader strategy and culture.
  • Change Management: Experience managing or supporting organisational change and growth, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cultural Fit & People Skills: You’ll be the friendly face of HR – approachable, empathetic, and personable, while also demonstrating the confidence to navigate challenging employee situations.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK employment law and best practices, ensuring all actions are legally sound.
  • Collaboration & Global Perspective: Ability to work as part of a wider, geographically distributed HR team while also thriving in a standalone role locally.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience working in environments with large contact centres or managing hourly staff.
  • Familiarity with employment systems and HR data analytics tools.
  • Background in technology, media, or entertainment sectors is a plus but not essential.
