Personal Assistant

Homecare Direct is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to work with our community client in Solihull.

He is a pleasant young man in his 20s who has learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy, and sensory/proprioceptive issues as the result of having meningitis as a child. He lives with his family in their large family home which incorporates an annexe for the client’s use. He is able to mobilise independently and can walk for long distances un-aided. He uses a combination of verbal and non-verbal methods to communicate with others. He requires assistance with washing and dressing.

He likes music, cooking, and going out for a drive in the car. He listens to sounds and loves nature and outdoor activities such as gardening. He can help to prepare his meals and take part in aspects of housework. He needs 1:1 support to engage in meaningful, functional activities to promote his independence. The client has a small hydrotherapy pool in his garden which staff will help him to access.

His family or another staff member will assist on 2:1 walks, outings and trips to the shops. He has an automatic vehicle that staff will drive.

We are seeking a pleasant and committed health care worker to help work alongside his family and professionals to plan, organise, and structure his day to support engagement in purposeful and enjoyable activities. Full training and support is given. It is desirable that the candidate has experience dealing with persons with learning disabilities and autism. Previous care experience is essential.

Essential experience required:

  • 6 months or more previous care experience and giving personal care.
  • A full, clean driving licence.

Desirable experience, but not essential as full training will be provided in:

  • Autism awareness, learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge.
  • MAPPA level 1 and Positive Behaviour Support
  • Safeguarding training
  • Medication administration
  • First Aid Training

Location: Solihull

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 7 days per week, 8 and 10 hours shifts available per day (some cross over to support activities in the middle of the day). Alternate weekend work is required.

Salary: £12.50 per hour weekday, £13.50 per hour weekends, Supervision/Training hours to be confirmed
