Permanent

Location: Edinburgh (typically 2 days in the office per week, 3 from home)

Expected starting salary: £44,640 - £55,800

The Job:

The Level 3 Global Server Team supports around 13,000 Windows and Linux/Unix servers located in a geographically dispersed hybrid environment. The successful candidate will work in one of the three Server Team workstreams - Content, Compliance, or Availability.

The successful candidate must demonstrate proven experience with investigating, diagnosing, and resolving issues in an enterprise server environment. A strong and confident team player must show initiative in continually improving the consistency, stability, and compliance of the server estate within an agile setting. They will be confident interacting with application owners, adhering to change process and mentoring. The role requires extensive knowledge and experience of Linux Servers. A basic knowledge of Windows Server, or a willingness to develop those skills is preferred to be successful in a mixed OS environment. The role relies heavily on automation tooling for software management and security compliance. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong experience and initiative in broadening and enhancing these capabilities.

What you will do:

  • Design, implement, and maintain Server infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security

  • Conduct regular system audits and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability

  • Develop and implement processes and procedures that meet Aegon security and compliance standards

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute project plans, ensuring successful delivery within defined timelines

  • Mentor and coach other members of the team

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending and implementing innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • ITIL foundation, or experience of working in an ITIL environment

  • Proficiency in Proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, or Python

  • Experience of Automation using Ansible, Tanium, Terraform or similar

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and provide efficient solutions

  • Proven experience of managing Linux patching using Satellite server, or similar

  • Extensive experience as a Unix engineer, with a deep understanding of Unix-based operating systems, including but not limited to Linux and AIX

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse teams

It'd also be great - but not essential - if you have:

  • Experience of managing workloads across multiple platforms e.g.  VMWare, AWS and Azure

  • Experience of managing AIX

  • Active Directory skills

  • Project delivery skills working in small to large sized projects

Working Conditions:

  • Be available during core working hours

  • Will be part of an on-call rota - supporting 7 x 24 support

  • Participate in planned out of hours work

  • Need to have a global outlook to work and be able to work across Aegon's global footprint
